HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory Tuesday night over Lyon College, as Alex Meany fired in the eventual game winner in the second half.

Andres Brealey would get things started for the Lions (4-9, 4-6 AMC) in the first half, as he found the back of the net off an assist by Alex Meany to give FHU an early 1-0 lead.

However, Lyon College (8-7-1, 6-4 AMC) would not back down, as Ali Fawaz came right back with a goal of his own off an assist by Ulises Caba Cordova and Omar Fabila to even things up at one apiece.

The Lions would come out firing in the second half, as Andrij Sawczuk and Meany would both fire in close range shots in the opening minutes of the half to set an aggressive tone.

Alex Meany would finally get his chance in the 59th minute of play, as was able to fire in his seventh goal of the season to put FHU up 2-1, which would be just enough to allow them to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Although the Lions had less scoring chances than the Scots on the offensive end, they made good on the opportunities they had to pick up the win. The Lions attempted 14 shots and four shots on goal compared to the Scots who attempted 10 shots and seven shots on goal in the match.

With the win, the Lions move to 4-9 on the season and 4-6 in conference play. Lyon College falls to 8-7-1 and 6-4 in AMC play with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action at home on Saturday, October 29, as they face Park (Mo.) University for Senior Day. The Lady Lions kick things off at 1:00 PM followed by the men's match at 3:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
