HENDERSON, Tenn. - It was a tight battle the entire way, but a strong fourth quarter by the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team propelled FHU to a 67-57 victory over William Woods University in the American Midwest Conference Championship Semifinal round.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 32-0 on the season and advance to the AMC Championship Finals, where they will host No. 2 seed Lyon (Ark.) College Monday, March 6th at the Brewer Sports Center.

Sandrea Sylman paced the Lady Lion attack, as she put up 21 points, which included a 3-for-4 shooting performance from behind the arc. Kim Mallory followed close behind with a double-double performance, as she put up 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the victory. Taleeah Cross rounded out the scoring for the Lady Lions, as she came up big down the stretch with 13 points.

The Lady Lions (32-0) shot 40 percent in the game compared to William Woods (20-11), who shot 35 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc.

Jasmine Brown led the Owls on the attack with 16 points while April Gebke followed close behind with 13 points shooting a 50 percent clip. Kelsey Scherder rounded out the scoring for William Woods, as she chipped in 10 points in the loss.

William Woods came out firing to start the game, as they shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc in the first half. However, Sandrea Sylman responded to the adversity and put the team on her back in the first quarter and chipped in 10 of FHU's 15 points in the opening stanza to give FHU a 15-14 lead entering the second quarter.

William Woods continued to use solid shooting and tight defense in the second quarter to enforce their will on the Lady Lions, as the second quarter saw four ties and four lead changes. The Owls led by as many as seven in the second quarter, as they went on a 7-0 run with 3:49 remaining in the half to take a 34-27 lead. However, the Lady Lions responded with solid shooting of their own, as they out-shot the Owls 8-3 to trail by just two points at the 37-35 mark entering the break.

Both teams continued to battle back and forth in the third quarter, as the Owls matched the Lady Lions point for point at 11 apiece to keep a 48-46 lead entering the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter; however, belonged to the Lady Lions, as they out-shot the Owls 21-9 to pull away when they needed it most.

The Lady Lions opened the fourth quarter with a three-point field goal by Gabrielle Nicholson to put them up 49-48 and from there they never trailed, as they reached their largest lead of the game at the 62-50 mark with 3:42 remaining. From there, the Owls could not get any closer than seven points, as FHU secured the 67-57 victory.

With the win, the Lady Lions improve to 32-0. The Owls end their season with a record of 20-11.
