Lady Lynx Host Lady Lions in Crucial AMC Softball Game of the Week

ST. LOUIS, MO – The American Midwest Conference Softball Game of the Week has been an off-and-on proposition so far this season due to the weather. On Thursday, however, the Game of the Week returns to the diamond, and AMC fans will be treated to a crucial matchup of two teams trying to stay in the AMC title picture. The Lindenwood University-Belleville Lady Lynx (27-10, 11-3 AMC) will play host to the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions (11-6, 9-1 AMC) in a battle of teams in a virtual deadlock for second place in the AMC.

Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions: The Lady Lions lost four of their first seven games, but since that point, they have been on a tear. Beginning with their home opener, the Lady Lions rattled off eight straight wins – all in AMC play – to pull to within a game of the Columbia College Cougars for first place in the Conference. The Lady Lions have been in close battles for much of their season so far, as 11 of their 17 games have been decided by two runs or less. The Lady Lions are 6-5 in those games, including a 6-2 mark in one-run games. The Lady Lions are even better in lopsided games, having won all six games they have played which were decided by five runs or more. The twin-bill will wrap up a six game road trip for the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood-Belleville Lady Lynx: The Lady Lynx are also red hot entering the games on Thursday. Lindenwood has won eight in a row in nearly every way possible – having won three of those eight by run-rule, once in extra innings, and three times in games decided by one or two runs. The games also mark a turning point in the schedule for Lindenwood-Belleville, as following Thursday's contests, the Lady Lynx will face only one more team above the .500 mark for the season – William Woods University on April 14 – and one team at the break-even point – Missouri Baptist University on April 19. Both of those matchups will be at home for LU-B.

Lindenwood-Belleville holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series between the two teams. The Lady Lynx have won both games in the series to be played in Belleville, sweeping the first double-dip in series history on April 10, 2015 by scores of 5-1 and 1-0.

Both the Lady Lions and the Lady Lynx have hopes of grabbing at least a piece of the AMC title, but if they are to do so, this series is critical for both teams. Lindenwood-Belleville is already three games behind Columbia in the loss column, and the Lady Lynx dropped a double-header to the Cougars last month, so they can ill-afford another loss if they are to remain in contention. The Lady Lions, meanwhile, have only one AMC loss, but they still must face both the Lady Lynx and the Cougars on the road.
