COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team put up a good fight, but came up just short Thursday, as they suffered a 7-3 loss to Columbia College on the road in Columbia, Mo.

Jeremy Rettig (7-2) picked up the win for Columbia College (32-15, 22-6 AMC) after working eight innings and allowing just three hits while striking out two. Brandon Guske (5-8) suffered the loss for the Lions after working 4 innings and allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out two.

Despite the loss, the Lions received solid contribution from Bryce Lester, who led the Lions at the plate, ending the day going 2-for-3. Darcy Moore was also solid at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI in the loss.

The Lions (30-19, 13-13 AMC) started the game hot, as they pushed three runs across in the top of the first inning. Bryce Lester crossed the plate first for the Lions after reaching on a single to second base and scoring off an RBI single by Collin McPherson to put FHU up 1-0.

Darcy Moore would take care of things from there, as he belted out a RBI double to left field to score Griffin Siebert and Collin McPherson to give the Lions a 3-0 edge.

However, despite the hot start, the Lions would not be able to push any more runs across for the remainder of the game. The Cougars, on the other hand, found their stride and pushed two runs across in the first and fourth innings along with three more in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead, which would be all they needed to secure the win.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 30-19 on the season and 13-13 in conference play. Columbia College improves to 32-15 on the season and 22-6 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions conclude their series with Columbia College tomorrow with a double header slated for 1:00 PM in Columbia, Mo.
