HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team kept their hopes of an AMC Championship title alive Thursday, as they picked up a 1-0 win over Williams Baptist College before suffering a 3-2 loss to Columbia in the nightcap.

Makenzie Prince (10-4) was the hero of the day in the opener, as she performed not only in the circle, but also at the plate. Prince worked a complete game in the circle and allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out five to keep the Eagle base path clean the entire game.

However, even more impressive than her stellar play in the circle, she was just as solid at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 in the game, including a game-winning homerun in the top of the seventh inning to seal it for Lady Lions (24-11).

Annaka Baxter and Caitlyn Carter were also solid at the plate for FHU, as Baxter went 2-for-3 on the day with a double while Carter followed suit with a 2-for-3 day of her own.

Rylee Rogers (13-7) suffered the loss in the match-up for  Williams Baptist (31-10) after working a complete game and allowing just six hits while striking out three. Bailey Zini led the Eagles at the plate, as she contributed both of WBC's hits in the game and went a perfect 2-for-2 in the game.

In FHU's second game of the afternoon, the Lady Lions faced No. 1 seed Columbia College (42-5) and despite battling the entire way, they came up just short with the 3-2 loss.

Hannah Wright (3-3) suffered the loss in the nightcap after working six solid innings and giving up eight hits while striking out four. Lauren McCroskie (21-1) picked up her 21st win of the year after working seven innings and allowing just five hits while striking out three.

Despite the loss, Kaylyn Graham led the Lady Lions at the plate, as she went 1-for-3 on the day with two RBI. FHU scattered five hits in the contest, as five different Lady Lions players contributed hits.

With the Thursday split, the Lady Lions move to 24-11 on the season. Columbia College moves to 32-5 on the season with the sweep over Park University and Freed-Hardeman.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions continue their quest for an AMC title Friday, as they take on the winner of Williams Baptist College and Park University, which is scheduled to be played Friday morning at 11:00 AM. The tentative start time for FHU's match-up will be 1:00 PM at Morgan Stadium.
