HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team opened their 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of Daniel Meis of Memphis, Tenn.

Meis, a 6-5 guard, comes to FHU after being a 3-year varsity starter for the Memphis Nighthawks, where he received several national and regional honors including the NCHBC All-Tournament Team (3 years), Most Valuable Player, All Region and All American Honorable Mention honors.

Meis finished his senior season with the Nighthawks averaging 11 points, five rebounds and one assist per game while joining the 1,000 point club throughout his high school career. During the 2017 National tournament, Meis averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 70 percent from behind the arc to lead his team to a Bronze Ball title.

Jim Sanderson, head coach for the Lion basketball program, said he is excited about the addition of Meis to the FHU family.

"Daniel has a solid skill set and has a really high basketball IQ," said Sanderson. "In addition to being an important part of the Lion basketball program, he will also be a great addition to the Freed-Hardeman family."

Daniel is the son of Randy and Lani Meis of Memphis, Tenn. He is also the brother of Ben Meis, who played for the Lion basketball program from 2010-2015. He is the first player to sign with the Lions for the 2017-18 season.
