HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball program added another player to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of Latrell Poitier of Freeport, Bahamas.

Poitier, a 5-10 junior point guard, transfers to FHU from St. Petersburg College, where he averaged five points and four assists per game while shooting 36 percent from the field, 30 percent from behind the arc and 69 percent from the stripe.

During his sophomore season with the Titans, Poitier logged minutes in 34 games and compiled 156 points and 82 rebounds, including a game-high 15 points against Pasco Hernando State College on November 29, 2016, where he shot an impressive 71 percent from the field.

Jim Sanderson, head coach for the Lion basketball program, said Poitier will add depth to the Lions roster for the upcoming season as a result of his experience at the college level.

"We are very excited about the signing of Latrell, as he will bring great energy to our guard play by creating easy baskets in our fast-break and tremendous ball pressure on the defensive end," Sanderson said. "He possesses a great work ethic in the classroom and on the floor. He will be fun to watch during the upcoming season."

Poitier is the son of Dwayne Poitier and Antoinetta Munnings. He joins Daniel Meis (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis Nighthawks), Kortland Martin (Humboldt, Tenn./Humboldt High School) and Jonathan Leach (Houston, Texas/Texas Christian) in the 2017-18 recruiting class for the Lion basketball program.
