Six FHU Athletic Teams Earn Academic Honors From NAIA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Tuesday that six Freed-Hardeman Athletic teams were among 1,677 in the nation to earn the Scholar Athlete team distinction for the 2016-17 academic year.

In order to qualify for the honor, teams are required to obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Lady Lion softball team led the way for Freed-Hardeman with a team GPA of 3.73, which ranked them tied for 11th in the country with five other schools.

Among the other teams at Freed-Hardeman who excelled in the academic arena for the 2016-17 year were the Lady Lion basketball team, who achieved a team GPA of 3.32 while the Women's soccer team boasted a 3.27 GPA.

The Lady Lion volleyball team followed close behind with a combined team GPA of 3.26 while the Men's Baseball team held a team GPA of 3.16. The Lady Lion cross country team rounded out the list of Freed-Hardeman teams receiving the honor with a team GPA of 3.13.

The American Midwest Conference also fared well in regard to the Scholar Team awards, as all 13 schools in the conference had at least one team at their institution to achieve the distinction.
