HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team added another player to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of Simon Fransis of Stockholm, Sweden.

Fransis, a 6-7 guard, transfers to FHU from De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., where he averaged 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 42 percent from behind the arc.

Jim Sanderson, head coach for the Lion basketball program, said Fransis will benefit the Lions in a variety of ways, especially on the defensive end.

"We are very excited to have Simon join our program for the upcoming season," said Sanderson. "His addition to the 2017-18 roster will provide us with the ability to stretch the defense as a result of his excellent three point shooting capabilities. I believe Simon is hungry to advance his game to help FHU strive for excellence. We are thankful to have him at Freed-Hardeman."

Simon is the son of Faris and Regina Fransis. He is the twelfth player added to the Lions roster for the upcoming season. He joins Daniel Meis (Memphis, Tenn. /Memphis Nighthawks), Kortland Martin (Humboldt, Tenn. /Humboldt High School), Jonathan Leach (Houston, Texas/Texas Christian) Latrell Poitier (Freeport, Bahamas/St. Petersburg College), Shamir Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas/Roane State Community College), Jahmeel Watts (Hudson, N.C./Caldwell Community College), Jacob DeLauri (Austin, Texas/Rouse High School), Charles Boyle (Rossville, Tenn./Rossville Christian Academy), Tyler Johnson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills High School), Grant Burns (Henderson, Tenn./Chester County High School) and Jalen Thompson (Memphis, Tenn./Salem International University) in the 2017-18 recruiting class for the Lion basketball program.
