FHU Softball Earns Top Academic Honors From NFCA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team was recently listed among the top academic teams in the country, as they were named to the Easton/NFCA NAIA All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 season.

With a cumulative team GPA of 3.570, FHU ranked 6th in the nation and was second in the American Midwest Conference, just behind William Woods University who achieved a 3.766 team GPA. Fellow conference foe Hannibal-LaGrange University also secured a top 10 spot in the academic list, as they ranked 8th in the nation with a team GPA of 3.508.

"I am really proud of the girls on our team for their work in the classroom," said Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lion softball team. "The fact we ranked in the top 10 in the nation academically is a big honor. It truly speaks to the character and discipline of our team."

The NFCA rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions, including NCAA Division 1, NCAA Division 2, NCAA Division 3, NAIA and Junior College division. 

Garnering the highest GPA in the other college divisions were Western Carolina University (NCAA DI - 3.673), Newbury College (NCAA DIII - 3.675), Siena Heights University (NAIA - 3.780) and College of Southern Idaho (Junior College – 3.686).
