Lions Soccer Drops Overtime Heartbreaker At Hannibal

HANNIBAL, Mo. - For a second straight match, the Freed-Hardeman Lion soccer team suffered a loss by just one goal, as the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans handed the Lions a 1-0 loss in overtime.

The match-up was fairly even on the offensive front, as FHU (1-8, 0-5 AMC) attempted 12 shots and three shots on goal compared to Hannibal-LaGrange (5-5-1, 3-2-1 AMC) who attempted 11 shots and four shots on goal in the match.

Despite the loss, the Lions played solid on the defensive end, as keeper Jeremiah Bailey saved three of the four shots he faced and gave up just one goal in the loss. George Achard and Roger Gisbert led the Lions on the offensive end, as each attempted three shots and one shot on goal in the loss.

Sebastian Espino led the Trojans on the offensive end and contributed the lone goal in the match in the second minute of the overtime period to give Hannibal the 1-0 victory. Fernan Centeno followed close behind for the Trojans, as he fired in three shots and one shot on goal in the win.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-8 on the season and 0-5 in conference play. Hannibal-LaGrange improves to 5-5-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Tuesday, October 10th, as they play host to St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Lady Lions kick things off first at 4:00 PM followed by the men's match at 6:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
