As a Lion

Throughout his time at Freed-Hardeman University from 2006 to 2010, 6-foot-8-inch Zack Frey will go down as one of the trailblazers in FHU Lion basketball history in what he was able to accomplish as a player and contribute to his team.

Frey was able to contribute to his team on and off the court and accomplished a long line of individual “firsts” that helped his team charter new territory in regard to program accomplishments.

At the time of his induction, Frey was the first player in program history to be a two-time All-American selection after earning second-team All-American status his junior and senior years. In addition to his national accomplishments, he was also a three-time First-Team All Conference selection throughout his time at FHU.

Frey averaged 15.6 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, and shot 54 percent from the field throughout his career at FHU. During his final three seasons in a Lions uniform he averaged 16.9 points per game. He also led the Lion basketball program to their first NAIA National Tournament appearance in the eleven years prior during the 2009-10 season.

“Zack’s work ethic made him an All-American,” said Jason Shelton, FHU Lion basketball coach. “The four years he was with the basketball program at FHU not only brought a trip to the National Tournament, but was also the foundation for the future success of our program. When your best player is your hardest worker you have a great chance to have success as a team. Zack demonstrated this hard work and determination for our team every time he stepped on the court.”

After Graduation

After finishing his playing career, Frey spent two seasons as the team’s graduate assistant. At the time of his induction, he worked in the logistics division at Western Express in Nashville, Tenn.
