HENDERSON, Tenn. - Meribeth Boehler scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as the No. 6 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions cruised to a 94-48 win over Spring Hill (Ala.) College on Homecoming Day in the FHU Sports Center.
The Lady Lions controlled the paint from the start, scoring their first 10 points from inside the lane as part of a 15-1 run to open the game. Spring Hill pulled back within eight points at the 9:28 mark before FHU outscored the Lady Badgers, 26-9, over the remainder of the first half.
The second half brought more of the same, as the Lady Lions led by as many as 49 points with all nine available players logging over 15 minutes apiece.
Freed-Hardeman's post trio of Boehler,
Jana Cross, and
Maria Bagwell proved to be nearly impossible for SHC to stop, combining for 51 points on 20-of-28 shooting from the floor. Cross had 13 points and nine rebounds while Bagwell posted career-highs in both categories with 18 points and nine boards. Freshman guard
Natalie Shumpert came off the bench to score 15 points to go along with three steals.
FHU's interior play helped compensate for its second straight game of cold shooting from the outside as the Lady Lions managed to convert on only 4-of-15 attempts from behind the arc.
Freed-Hardeman (4-0), which is coming off its third game in five days, gets a short break before heading to Jackson, Tenn., for the 2009 Rotary Classic. The Lady Lions open up against The Master's (Calif.) College on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7:00 PM.
