Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Bethel (Tenn.) University Wildcats showed why they are the top-ranked team in the NAIA on Saturday afternoon, breaking Freed-Hardeman's four-match winning streak with a 6-0 win over the Lions on Saturday afternoon.
Six different players scored for Bethel (6-0-1, 1-0), which won its sixth straight match of the season.
The match was played fairly evenly for the first 30 minutes until Guilherme Karaoglon opened the scoring after putting a pass from Mario Vila Boa past FHU keeper Alexandre Girodo. From that point forward, the Wildcats used strong defense and a lot of speed to control the remainder of the match.
Vila Boa scored in the 37th minute to give Bethel a 2-0 halftime lead. The Wildcats kept pressing, sending through balls behind the Lion defense that helped create more goals in the 49th, 52nd, 79th, and 84 minutes.
FHU, meanwhile, had difficulty moving upfield against a stingy Wildcat defense which always seemed to appear wherever the Lions tried to pass the ball.
Freed-Hardeman (6-2, 0-1) is back in action on Tuesday as it hosts No. 19 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at 4:00 PM.
