FHU set to host fourth annual Roar Awards presented by FirstBank

HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University athletic department has announced the fourth edition of the Roar Awards presented by FirstBank.

Set to be celebrated on May 5, the Roar Awards are the yearly celebration of each Lion and Lady Lion to don the maroon and white in the 2025-26 season. The student-athletes will vote among their teammates for "Outsanding Teammate," "Outstanding Christian Example," and "Team MVP."

"This night is a celebration of the remarkable achievements of our student-athletes, whose commitment extends far beyond competition," said athletic director Jonathan Estes. "We are proud to recognize their excellence not only in athletic performance, but also in their dedication to academic success and spiritual growth."

In addition to those awards, the coaches and department staff will vote for the four biggest awards. Coaches will nominate and then vote for "Outstanding Female Student-Athlete," "Outstading Male Student-Athlete," and "Outstanding Individual Performance." The gala concludes with the "Charlie Smith Heart of a Lion Award." Named for longtime coach, athletic director, and Hall of Fame member Charlie Smith, the Heart of a Lion is presented to an outgoing senior who best exemplifies what it means to be a Freed-Hardeman student-athlete by excelling in their respective sport, academics, leadership, and spiritual growth.

Excited to celebrate the student-athletes, Estes continued, "Their impact is felt across our campus and community, and this evening reflects our deep appreciation for the discipline, character, and purpose they bring to everything they do. Partnering with FirstBank will make this an even more special evening."

The awards ceremony will be in the Brewer Sports Center and will feature a catered meal beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $30 and can be purchased by clicking here. They will be available until April 27. Members of the Director's Circle are entitled to two free tickets and will receive an email with instructions.
