Lions kick off new season tonight

Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - One year after setting numerous program records, the Freed-Hardeman Lion soccer team looks to keep the momentum going as it opens the 2011 season against Atlanta Christian College at 5:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.

Last year, the Lions tied the program wins record and set a new record for winning percentage (.722) after going 13-5. They also set a record for conference wins (four) and shutouts (seven) in a season and hosted a conference tournament match for the first time ever.

Most of the offensive production from last season returns to the pitch this season led by Simbarashe Zvaita (12 goals, one assist) and Kenniel Hyde (nine goals, seven assists).

The Lions defeated Atlanta Christian on the road last season, 2-1. Zvaita scored in the 19th minute and Philipp Baier extended the lead on a goal in the 57th minute. ACC pulled within one after scoring in the 88th minute.

Atlanta Christian opened its 2011 season with a 5-0 win over Talladega (Ala.) College on Aug. 24.
