Second half sinks Lions in season opener

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ga. - Three second-half goals made the difference as Truett-McConnell (Ga.) College spoiled the season opener for the Freed-Hardeman Lions, handing FHU a 3-1 loss.

The Lions led 1-0 at the break after a goal by Christopher Campbell in the 35th minute after taking a ball from the TMC defense and sending a shot to the bottom left corner.

But TMC, which outshot the Lions 23-7 for the match, got the equalizer and the game-winner in a five-minute span in the second half and added an insurance goal in the 81st minute.

"Our guys are still learning to play with each other," said head coach Jason Elliott. "I think with time we will be a solid group but it will take some time with so many young players."

FHU returns to the field tomorrow with a match at Point (Ga.) University.
