Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions will look to go deeper into the postseason than ever before and extend the program's record-setting season as they face a dangerous Westmont (Calif.) College squad in the Fab Four at the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championships.
Freed-Hardeman (34-1) makes its fourth trip the the Fab Four but is still looking for its first win there. The Lady Lions also advanced to the semifinals in 1999, 2008 and 2011 but came up short each time, twice losing to the eventual national champion.
No. 4 Westmont (28-4) is making its first appearance in the Fab Four. Last year, the Warriors lost in the quarterfinals. This year, they went undefeated in the regular season in Golden State Athletic Conference at 14-0 before losing in the tournament championship to Vanguard (Calif.), a team they swept in the regular season.
Westmont is led by national player of the year Tugce Canitez, a 6-foot-2 senior forward from Izmir, Turkey. Canitez averages 21.6 points and 12.3 rebounds per game coming into the Fab Four. She was a member of the 2012 Turkish Olympic team, playing in six games during the Olympic Games in London last summer.
The Warriors, the only other one-seed remaining, advanced with wins over University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) (63-58), Rogers State (Okla.) (77-70), and Westminster (Utah), 39-36. Canitez has been spectacular, averaging 22.3 points and 14.0 rebounds per game during the tournament. Kelsie Sampson and Esther Lee both provide some offensive balance averaging 12.7 and 12.3 points per game respectively in the tournament.
The Lady Lions have won with defense and rebounding so far through the tournament and will look to continue that trend tonight. FHU has out-rebounded opponents by an average of 18.0 rebounds in its three tournament games and is averaging 19.7 offensive rebounds per contest.
The winner of tonight's game will advance to the national championship game tomorrow night at 5:30 CDT and will face the winner of the Lee (Tenn.) University/Cumberland (Tenn.) University game that precedes the FHU/Westmont contest.

Only Canitez (22.3) and Lee's Hollie German (20.3) average more…FHU leads the tournament in scoring margin at 21.3 points per game...Westmont has doubled its total number of national tournament wins (3) coming into the season.
