HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion Soccer team made it look easy Saturday afternoon, as they picked up a 4-1 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University while the Lions suffered a 2-1 loss at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
The Lady Lions kicked things off first in the Saturday matinee and despite both teams staying quiet in the first half, FHU (3-2-1, 1-1 AMC) more than made up for it in the second half with four goals to take home the victory.
Freshman Hannah Bilger continued her strong play and nearly completed a hat trick, as she fired in two of FHU's four goals in the match-up. Bilger's first goal came in the 56th minute while her second goal came in the 66th minute off a solid feed from Senior Forward Avis Van Kampen.
McCall Decker also got in on the scoring action, as she fired in her third goal of the season in the 61st minute to put FHU up 2-0 at that point in the game. Maria Espinoza Castillo completed the scoring drive for the Lady Lions and fired in her second goal of the season in the 86th minute to give FHU a 4-0 lead.
The Trojans (0-6, 0-2 AMC) got one goal back near the end of regulation off a Shelby Stine goal, but it would be too little too late, as the Lady Lions secured the 4-1 victory.
The Lady Lions out-shot Hannibal-LaGrange 24-4 in the match-up, with FHU peppering 15 shots on goal in the win. With the win, the Lady Lions move to 3-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. Hannibal-LaGrange falls to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in AMC play with the loss.
Meanwhile in the men's match, the Lions played solid the entire afternoon and held a 1-0 advantage for a majority of the match; however, two late goals by the Hannibal-LaGrange sent FHU home with their third loss of the season.
Despite the loss, Carter Chandler continued his strong play, as he fired in a goal in the 21st minute off a solid feed from Daniel Peinado to put FHU up 1-0. The goal for Chandler marked his third goal of the season.
The Lions (3-3, 1-1 AMC) held a 1-0 advantage for a majority of the game; however, the Trojans (2-3-1, 2-0 AMC) had other plans, as they fired in two unanswered goals in the second half to secure the 2-1 victory.
