HENDERSON – The top-ranked Lady Lions (19-1, 13-1 AMC) fell short for the first time this season in the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week to No. 22 Lyon College (15-3, 11-2 AMC) 65-56 on Tuesday night.

It was a tight game from the start, with the Lady Lions trailing by as many as four points in the opening 10 minutes of the contest.

Coach Dale Neal called a timeout with just over six minutes remaining in the period, and Freed-Hardeman would go on an 18-6 run until Lyon called a timeout of their own with 6:15 to go in the second period.

The Scots would get hot in the second quarter, but the Lady Lions would take a two-point lead into halftime.

Haylee Croom came out hot in the second half, securing her double-double early on and finishing with 22 points and 19 rebounds, one shy of her career high.

The Scots would shoot lights out from the field in the second half, going 53 percent, compared to just 37 percent from the Lady Lions, 34 percent for the game.

Sandrea Sylman made a run of her own in the fourth quarter when the team was down by seven, scoring seven straight points to keep the team in the game.

But Lyon was able to knock down their free throws to ice the contest and walk away with the upset victory.

The Lady Lions will be on the road for the next five contests, the next being at Hannibal-LaGrange on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
