Lions post offensive clinic in lopsided win

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Freed-Hardeman University men's soccer team (1-2) defeated Fisk University 9-1 on Thursday.

The Lions were dominant in this game from the start, as they were able to secure their first win of the season. The Lions struck in the sixth minute off a Daniel Peinado goal, his first of the year. Peinado scored three more times in the first half and once in the second half to finish the game with a career-high five goals in the win. After Peneido's second goal, the Bulldogs struck in the 24th minute to make it a 2-1 contest. Gabriel Carvahlo would add his second goal of the season before Peinado scored his hat trick and fourth goals to stretch the lead to 5-1 at the half.

In the second half, the Lions made a defensive stand, not allowing Fisk to score, while adding four more goals in the half. Kenneth Ramirez, Mauricio Jose Gonzalez, Carvahlo would all score for the Lions in the second half along with Peinado who would score his fifth goal of the game. Carvahlo recorded four assists.

On the defensive end, the Lions saw action from goalies Calum Langdale and Hunter Thompson. Langdale would have three saves, including a save on a penalty, while Thompson had two. The Lions finished the match with 28 shots, 19 on goal, while Fisk finished with 12 total shots.

The Lions will look to make it two wins in a row on Monday against Brescia College. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex
