Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lions soccer team (5-7, 1-6 MSC) lost a thriller to No. 14 Lindsey Wilson (8-1-1, 7-0 MSC) on Tuesday afternoon, falling 2-1 after the Blue Raiders scored with less than 30 seconds left in the game.
It was all defense for both teams from the start with the score staying tied through 72 minutes of game time.
Lindsey Wilson was able to break the stale mate just after the 72-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead, but that was quickly erased by the Lions in the 77th minute.
After the Lions forced a turnover, Joao Pedro brought the ball down the left side, lofting one over the heads of the Lindsey Wilson defense to the feet of Lawson Ashby, who was able to put his laces on the ball and find the top right corner of the goal to tie the game up with less than 15 minutes left in the contest.
Lindsey Wilson would press hard for the final 14 minutes, putting as much pressure as they could on the Lions back line. They were able to hold on to try to send the game into extra time, but with 24 seconds left in regulation, the Blue Raiders sent the ball into the box from the left side, and Victor Cavalcante was able to volley one into the top right corner for the game winner.
Calum Langdale was excellent in goal for the Lions, recording seven saves in the contest.
The Lions will have a few days off before hosting Campbellsville on Saturday at the University School of Jackson. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
