Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lions soccer team (5-5, 1-4 MSC) dropped a 2-1 thriller on Thursday night to the University of the Cumberlands (3-4-3, 2-2-1 MSC).
The Patriots were able to get on the board first in the 25th minute on a strong counter attack to take a 1-0 lead. But the Lions were able to answer less than 10 minutes later when Kenneth Ramirez scored with his left foot from just outside of the 18-yard box to tie the contest 1-1, which the teams would take into the halftime break.
After nearly eight minutes into the final 45 minutes, the Lions committed a handball inside of their own boxes, awarding the Patriots with a penalty, which they converted in the 53rd minute to take a 2-1 lead.
The Lions would have their chances in a very chippy second half following the penalty, but they were unable to convert, despite four shots in the period.
Calum Langdale finished with four saves in the game.
The Lions will take on Life University on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the University School of Jackson.
