Big second half leads Lions over Saints

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Lions basketball team (14-8, 9-7 MSC) came up with a huge win on Saturday, knocking off (RV) Thomas More (13-8, 11-8 MSC) 73-68.

The Lions got off to a hot start, leading 8-0 after less than three minutes of action. The Saints came storming back, though, taking the lead with 14 minutes left in the opening half and keeping it until the break, leading by nine points at halftime.

The final 20 minutes was all FHU, led by Kortland Martin, who scored 16 of his game-high 33 points in the second half.

The Lions were lights out in the second period, shooting over 53 percent from the floor and 44 percent from behind the arc. They also forced 18 turnovers by the Saints, while taking care of the ball themselves, only turning it over seven times.

Wanya King had a strong game, scoring 15 points while knocking down three 3-pointers to round out the double-digit scorers.

The Lions will return home for a matchup against defending NAIA National Champions Georgetown College on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
