HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions honored seniors
Lawson Ashby,
João Pedro Brandão,
Tristan Hogan,
Daniel Malaquias, and
Omer Shifris before their match with the Campbellsville (Ky.) University Tigers. An own-goal in the 80th minute proved to be the difference-maker in a 1-0 loss for the Lions.
A midfield battle from the opening whistle got interesting at 10:40 when the Lions (6-9-2, 0-6-0 MSC) committed a foul in the box to allow for a Campbellsville penalty.
Omer Shifris stood firm and denied the PK opportunity and keep the scores even.
Avery Flener had the first chance for FHU with a shot on goal at 21:10, with Brandão's rebounding shot sailing high. Campbellsville took six shots in the first half with Shifris keeping all four shots on goal out of the net. FHU had three shots in the first half.
Campbellsville (11-4-2, 2-2-1 MSC) would attempt four shots in the second half before the Lions' attempt to clear instead went into the net as an own goal. That own goal was the difference maker at 79:19 with no other scoring.
João Pedro Brandão,
Avery Flener, and
Thabo Mahlaha each had two shots in the match, with Brandão and Flener having FHU's only shots on goal.
