Late goal not enough as Lions downed by Toppers 2-1

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions tallied one goal late in Tuesday's match against Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.) University. Unfortunately for FHU, the Toppers had already netted two en route to a 2-1 final.

Freed-Hardeman (0-2-1) was swarming the ball in the opening half, sending two shots over the Blue Mountain Christian keeper in the first eight minutes. On the other end of the pitch, BMCU's first shot found the back of the net at 9:51.

The Toppers (2-1-0) added a second goal in the 63rd minute to tally the game-winners. The bright spot for FHU was at 74:31 when Ian Matheus took advantage of an open look and scored FHU's lone goal.

The Lions took 11 shots in the match, with only Matheus's goal being on goal. Omer Shifris tallied five saves in the loss.
