LEBANON, Tenn. — Freed-Hardeman University's men's soccer team entered Mid-South Conference play Saturday against the Cumberland (Tenn.) University Phoenix. The Lions got six shots off in a 2-0 loss.
In the blink of an eye the Lions (5-4-2, 0-1-0 MSC) found themselves in a hole when the Phoenix took a 1-0 lead on the first shot of the match at 1:16. Starter
Omer Shifris would stop the next four CU shots on goal before conceding a second goal right before the halftime break.
Freed-Hardeman would cut the Cumberland (5-3-1, 1-0-0 MSC) shot output in half from the first to the second frames, allowing just six shots in the second half, with Shifris collecting saves on both shots on goal. The Lions had their best opportunites in the waning minutes when
Thabo Mahlaha's show at 83:46 was the first shot on goal for FHU, followed by a second from
Seabata Ts'emane at 87:47 before the whistle sounded full time.
