HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University Lion soccer team took care of business Tuesday night, topping the visiting Royals of Johnson (Tenn.) University 1-0.
The Lions (2-2-2) were unsuccessful on their first several attempts, getting too much power on shots that sailed over the net. In the first half, the Lions sent 10 shots toward the Royal keeper, with three being on target. The teams spent a majority of the match trading midfield possessions until the 21:07 when
Rodrigo Tostado sent a pass across the top of the box to João Pedro Brandão, would center the ball before firing an 18-yarder to the right of the diving Johnson keeper to tally his second goal of the season.
To their credit, Johnson (0-2-0) ramped up the pressure in the second half, cutting FHU's shot total down to six while forcing Lion goalie
Omer Shifris to make three crucial saves in the second frame.
João Pedro Brandão had four shots in the match, two on target including his goal.
Luis Julian Aragonsosa,
Avery Flener,
Thabo Mahlaha, and
Seabata Ts'emane each attempted two shots in the victory.
