Lions battle #14, fall by one

HENDERSON — The Lions of Freed-Hardeman University and the No. 14 Cumberland University were scoreless until the 80th minute when the lone goal was scored to see the Phoenix escape with a 1-0 final.

It was a midfield battle with only two shots in the first half being on the mark. The Lions (8-3-2, 0-2-0 MSC) attempted one shot in the half while two of the eight attempts by Cumberland were on goal.

The Phoenix (12-1-0, 3-0-0 MSC) ramped up the pressure in the second half, sending 14 shots toward Eduardo Almansa with the freshman keeper tallying four saves. It wasn't uniti 79:28 that a fantastic cross was rocketed into the net by a header to give Cumberland the 1-0 lead they would hold on to until the finish.

Brandon Carrillo led FHU's attack, taking two shots while Vicente Georgi adding the third attempt. Almansa had six saves.
