Lion soccer ends season in MSC tournament

COLUMBIA, Ky — It is telling how tough the Mid-South Conference is when the No. 5 team in the country is the No. 3 seed in the league's tournament. As the sixth seed, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions battled until time ran out on a 2-1 quarterfinal and the 2025 season.

The Lions (10-7-1) held strong on the back line in the first half, holding the Blue Raiders scoreless despite firing 16 shots toward the Lion net. Eduardo Almansa made seven saves in the first frame to keep the scores level at intermission.

A fast attack gave Lindsey Wilson (12-2-1) the lead in the 53d minute before a second strike at 56:00 to go up 2-0. The Lions were not finished as Avery Flener and Tyler Burns teamed up with Flener pulling LWU's keeper from his net to allow a Burns chip shot to put FHU on the board at 71:31. The Lions were unable to put any more shots toward the net before the whistle ended the match at 2-1.

Finishing the year with 10 victories, this marks the first time in program history that the Lions have posted consecutive double-digit-win seasons. It's also the first time since the 2014 and 2015 seasons that the Lions ended the year with a winning record back-to-back years.
