MCKENZIE, Tenn. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions battled the West Tennessee rival Bethel Wildcats in a tale of two halves. The first was all FHU before Bethel stormed back to score four goals in the second frame to defeat the Lions 4-2.
Two fast strikes from Freed-Hardeman (6-4-3, 0-3-0 MSC) came first from
Evans Osei Amankwah. Again,
Henry Appiah recorded the assist on Osei Amankwah's goal at 32:11. FHU kept pressure until the 39th minute when
David Hajduk took a pass from
Sam Sebagabo and fired it into the back of the net to push the Lion lead to two goals. FHU was outshot by the Wildcats 6-2 in the opening frame.
Just as FHU shocked Bethel (6-3-1, 2-2-0 MSC) with fast goals in the first half, it was two rallies where the Wildcats put goals on the board that doomed FHU. The first knell came at 66:01 before the Cats leveled the scores 2-2 with a 73rd minute strike. Then with five minutes remaining in the contest, Wildcats managed to net two goals in the 85th and the 89th minute to put the game out of reach of the Lions.
Those two goals in the first half were the only two shots the Lions took in the losing effort, which Bethel forced
Gaspar Bourdon to make two saves from their 13 total shots.
