Lady Lion tennis falls twice to open TAMUT Invite

TEXARKANA, Ark. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions fell twice to begin a busy weekend. On Friday, they dropped a 4-0 decision to the No. 18/15 Louisiana Christian University Wildcats after the match was clinched before the completion of singles play. On Saturday, they came up short 6-1 against the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles.

LCU (1-3) swept the doubles courts to claim the opening point. Vanessa Avila Padilla and Suri Gomez fell 6-1 on the No. 1 court, while Morgan Brown and Elise Kruzan dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2. On the No. 3 court, Kennley Kirk and Anna Harder were defeated 6-1 to seal the doubles sweep.

In singles action for the Lady Lions (1-1), Morgan Brown was topped 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 3 court, and Anna Harder fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Audrey Harder also came up short on the No. 6 court, 6-0, 6-0, as the Wildcats secured the team victory.

Three remaining matches went unfinished. Gomez held a 7-5 advantage in the first set on the No. 1 court before play was halted. Kruzan trailed 6-2, 4-3 at No. 2, and Kirk was behind 6-1, 4-2 in her No. 5 match when competition concluded.
 


 

OKWU (3-3) claimed the doubles point with victories on all three courts. Vanessa Avila Padilla and Suri Gomez were defeated 6-2 at No. 1, while Morgan Brown and Elise Kruzan dropped a 6-3 decision on the No. 2 court. Audrey Harder and Caroline Marshall fell 6-0 at No. 3 to complete the sweep.

For the Lady Lions' (1-2) singles round, Morgan Brown secured the lone point for the Lady Lions at the No. 3 position. After falling 6-4 in the opening set, she rallied for a 6-4 second-set win and sealed the match with a 10-8 tiebreak victory.

Gomez was defeated 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 1 court, and Kruzan fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Anna Harder dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4, while Kennley Kirk was topped 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 5 court. Audrey Harder rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 6 as OKWU secured the 6-1 team victory.
