HENDERSON — The Freed-Hardeman University cheer squad has announced a fall camp for young cheerleaders.

A mainstay on the sidelines of FHU basketball games, including trips to the 2024 and 2026 national championships, the Lady Lions will host campers from kindergarten through the fifth grades on October 22 and 23. The camp will culminate with a performance at the season-opnening men's basketball game between No. 1 Freed-Hardeman and Marian (Ind.) University on October 24. Campers will receive free admission to the game, but parents and other visitors will need to purchase a ticket to the basketball game.

"FHU cheer camp is an incredible opportunity for our collegiate athletes to pour into the young girls of our community. This camp is designed to provide every camper with a cheer big sister for the week," said FHU sophomore cheerer Ariel Faulkner. "Campers will learn jump technique, stunt strategies, cheer motions, and most of all teamwork."

Held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each night in the Brewer Sports Center, registration is $50 with additional siblings from the same family able to attend for $40.

Faulkner continued, "The FHU cheerleaders feel incredibly blessed by the opportunity to train our future Lion cheerleaders. It is our hope that they go away feeling prepared for any time they step into a classroom, gym, or field. Most of all, we want them to leave feeling the love of God."
