Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Freed-Hardeman University freshman Fernanda Alves has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week for the week ending Oct. 19, 2008.

Alves, a 6-foot-0 middle hitter from Minas Gerais, Brazil, tallied 21 kills and six blocks as the Lady Lions extended their record to 24-1 on the season and 10-0 in conference play. She led the team with 12 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College, then posted nine kills and six blocks in a 3-0 victory over Lyon (Ark.) College.

Alves is the second FHU player to receive the award this fall. Senior Crissandra Perez has been named conference player of the week on two separate occasions.
