Lions Stave Off Tougaloo Comeback

Box Score
JACKSON, Tenn. - The shoe was almost on the other foot this afternoon.
One night after overcoming an 11 point deficit in the final 4:30 of the game, the Freed-Hardeman Lions almost saw Tougaloo (Miss.) College do the same to them. But the Lions, who led by 21 with 11:41 to play and by 10 with 4:20 left, converted on 8-of-9 free throws in the last 2:22 to take a 72-65 win.
Both teams struggled to find their ranges as FHU shot 36.4 percent (24-of-66) from the field while Tougaloo shot 29.2 percent (21-of-72).
The Lions did have hot streaks from three-point range, and turned one into a 13-3 run over the final 5:00 over the first half to take a 34-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After using a 16-3 run to extend the lead to 54-33 with 11:41 left, FHU went cold making just four of its last 15 shots from the field over the remainder of the game. Tougaloo took advantage by attacking the rim, systematically cutting into the Freed-Hardeman lead until a Jeremy Cable three-pointer brought the Bulldogs within two points at 62-60 with 2:52 left.
The Lions, though, got the job done at the foul line in the final minutes and preserved the victory.
Trevillian and Jesse Moulton each scored 15 points for the Lions. Logan Greer added 12 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
FHU, which improves to 4-3 on the season, has a busy week during the holidays. It begins on Tuesday with a visit to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College for a 7:00 PM tipoff.
