Lady Lions Beat Lambuth, Ready for Union

Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team defeated Lambuth (Tenn.) University, 3-1, on Saturday and now stands one win away from making history.

FHU improved to 30-3 with its win over Lambuth, giving the program 30 wins for the second straight year and for the third time in the last five seasons. Fernanda Alves led the attack with 15 kills, while Karim Raymond contributed 10.

Now, the Lady Lions have a chance to add to their growing list of firsts that have come in the last few years. To do that, however, they will have to defeat their biggest rival.

FHU travels to Union (Tenn.) University on Monday night looking to accomplish two things. First, a win would match the program's best winning total in a season with 31 and the conference tournament is still in front of them. Second, a win would allow FHU to finish unbeaten in conference play for the first time in school history.

The last team in the TranSouth Conference to accomplish such a feat was Union, who went 10-0 in conference in 2004.

FHU won the first meeting between the schools on Sept. 23, three games to two. In front of a large and vocal crowd, the Lady Lions won the first two games only to see Union fight back and send the match to a fifth and decisive game. FHU would win that game, 15-5.

The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
