Zack Frey has been named
the TranSouth Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week
for the week ending Jan. 18, 2009.
Frey, a 6-foot-8
junior from Nashville, Tenn., helped lead the surging Lions to a pair of wins that put FHU into sole possession of first place in the TranSouth Conference. He also scored his 1,000th career point during the week.
On Thursday, Frey scored 32 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 96-80 win over Bethel (Tenn.) College. During the second half of that game, Frey scored the 1,000th point of his career, becoming the 25th Lion to do so.
On Saturday, he helped FHU to a 69-66 road upset of No. 5 Union (Tenn.) University with 12 points and six rebounds, including two offensive boards late in the game that gave FHU additional possessions.
Last season, Frey was a first team TranSouth All-Conference selection and an NAIA honorable mention All-American.
