No. 20 Lions to face upstart Mid-Continent

Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - Freed-Hardeman's No. 20 national rating will be put to the test tonight as the upstart Mid-Continent (Ky.) University Cougars pay a visit to the Sports Center.

WHERE: FHU Sports Center, 8:00 PM tip-off

ON THE AIR: WFHU, 91.5 FM. Pregame begins at 5:45. Live streaming video and audio can also be accessed via gofhulions.com.

RECORDS: Freed-Hardeman is 14-6 overall and 6-1 in conference; Mid-Continent is 7-9 overall and 4-2 in conference.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Though Mid-Continent enters tonight's game with a record of 7-9, the Cougars are 4-2 in conference and those two losses have come by a combined three points. After winning just one game in November, MCU has won six of its last eight games and poses much more of a threat to teams in the TranSouth Conference than was thought in the pre-season.

Cougar head coach Winston Bennett has many new faces on his roster this season including Donovan Willis and Kenny Thomas, a pair of transfers from Essex (N.J.) Community College. The 6-foot-8 Thomas averages 13.3 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game while Willis has scored at a 10.5 point-per-game clip.

LION LOWDOWN
  • Climbing in the polls: On Monday, the Lions made their first appearance in the NAIA Top 25 since Mar. 11, 2003. The Lions appeared in the poll at No. 20 after upsetting then-No. 5 Union (Tenn.) on the road.
  • Conference leaders: FHU enters tonight with a half-game lead in the TranSouth Conference at 6-1. It is the first time that the Lions have held the conference lead this deep into the season since 2002-03.
  • Winning streak: The Lions will attempt to win their eighth straight game tonight. It would be the program's longest winning streak since the 2002-03 season.
  • Player of the week, again: For the second week in a row, a Freed-Hardeman Lion was named the TranSouth Conference player of the week. Zack Frey received the honor on Monday thanks to his 32-point performance against Bethel (Tenn.) last week.
