Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions are one win away from their first bid to the NAIA National Tournament after a 3-2 win over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University in the winners' bracket championship of the TranSouth Conference tournament on Tuesday night.
FHU (22-12) now has to lose twice tomorrow in order to be eliminated from the tournament. The Lady Lions will play at 1:30 PM against either Trevecca, Union (Tenn.) University, or Cumberland (Tenn.) University. One win would give Freed-Hardeman its second conference title in three years as well as an automatic bid to the national tournament.
The Lady Lions took the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-21, before Trevecca rallied to even the match with 25-20 and 25-23 wins in the third and fourth sets. The Trojans held a 7-6 edge in the fifth set before FHU took over.
Nataly Gutierrez put away four straight kills to help FHU edge ahead, 11-8. From there,
Diana Silva sandwiched two kills around a pair of TNU attack errors to finish the match, 15-8.
Silva finished with 23 kills and Gutierrez had 19.
Karim Raymond recorded a season-high 19 digs while Silva had 18 and
Callie West added 12.
Amber Turner set 54 assists for FHU.
