Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The top-seeded Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions made quick work of eighth-seeded Mid-Continent (Ky.) University in the first round of the TranSouth Conference volleyball tournament on Monday with a 3-0 sweep.
The Lady Lions dominated the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-9, before finding itself in a battle in the third set. The set was tied at 17-17 before FHU rattled off the final eight points to close out the match.
Diana Silva led the attack with 14 kills while
Nataly Gutierrez and
Sydney Rice each had nine.
Claire Pennington added seven kills and paced the defense with 11 digs.
Emily Hicks had nine digs and served up four aces.
The Lady Lions had a .430 hitting percentage for the match and totaled 45 kills compared to MCU's 19.
FHU (20-12) advances to the semifinals in the double-elimination tournament tomorrow against Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 11:30 AM. Cumberland, the No. 5 seed, swept fourth-seeded Union (Tenn.) University in the day's first match.
