Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) Trojans turned a tight game into a 15-4 win over the Freed-Hardeman Lions with an eight-run seventh inning on Friday afternoon in the TranSouth Conference opener for both teams.
The Lions got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning after RBI singles by
Derek Bush and
Noslen Labrada, but Trevecca got them back in the bottom of the inning and tacked on a third run in the third on a solo shot by Marty Parks.
FHU retook the lead after scoring twice in the fifth on
Brian Bullard's solo homerun and Bush's RBI double that brought home
Willy Hernandez. But as they did earlier, the Trojans had an answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 6-4.
Freed-Hardeman threatened to cut the gap in the sixth, but
George Otero was cut down at the plate while trying to score on a
Leo Alvarez two-out single. The Trojans picked up another run in the bottom of the sixth and, after TNU starter Tim Dunn retired the Lions in order in the seventh, then exploded for eight runs with the game finishing on Brian Dirheimer's second homerun of the inning.
Carlos Pertuz (2-1) took the loss for FHU, allowing seven runs on six hits in 5.1 innings.
Joey Gildea allowed eight runs in relief of Pertuz in 1.1 innings.
The Lions were able to get 10 hits and draw three walks off of Dunn, but stranded six and had two runners thrown out at the plate to end innings. Alvarez went 3-for-4, while Bullard, Bush, and Otero each had a pair of hits.
FHU (8-6, 0-1) continues its three-game series today with a double-header beginning at 12:00 PM.
