Ferreira's big week nets Player of the Week award

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Fernanda Ferreira of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24, 2010.

Ferreira, a 6-foot sophomore from Minas Gerais, Brazil, led the Lady Lions to a 2-1 week in conference play with an average of 4.8 kills with a 3.64 attack percentage. She also averaged 2.9 digs per set and tallied 15 total blocks for the week.

Her strongest effort came in a 3-2 loss to conference leader Union (Tenn.) University as Ferreira posted a double-double with 21 kills and a season-high 21 digs. She also had a season-high 22 kills in a four-set win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College earlier in the week, and added 14 kills and six block assists in a sweep of Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University.

Freed-Hardeman is 9-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
