Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Meribeth Boehler and
Natalie Shumpert combined for 44 points as the No. 9 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions picked up a 73-56 win over Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday night.
FHU (7-2) never trailed in the game, opening on an 18-5 run over the first six minutes and led by as many as 14 points in the first half before a late run by AUM pulled the Senators within six. Boehler, though, scored two of her game-high 23 points with 19 seconds left to help the Lady Lions take a 38-30 lead into halftime.
A 10-0 run that started four minutes into the second half extended the Freed-Hardeman lead to 18 points with 11:49 to play. AUM (5-5) again cut into the lead as it did in the first half, getting within nine points on a pair of free throws by Carlie Ainsworth at the 5:33 mark, but the Lady Lions responded with seven unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
In addition to Boehler's 23, Shumpert added 21 points while
Hannah Parsley and
Whitney Johnson scored 13 and 11 respectively.
The Lady Lions finish the two-game road trip tomorrow at 5:30 against Faulkner (Ala.) University.
