Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions finally suffered their first loss of the season, losing a 2-0 decision to Lambuth (Tenn.) University on Friday evening in FHU's home opener.
Jamie Neal scored both of Lambuth's goals as the Lady Eagles won their first match of the season. FHU dropped to 3-1-1 and was shut out for the first time this season.
It appeared that the teams would go into halftime in a scoreless tie until Neal managed to slip a shot past
Tiffany Harris late in the 43rd minute. Neal sprinted to a slow-rolling through ball from Melissa Gallogly and just beat Harris to the ball, enabling her to touch it past the senior keeper into the right corner of the net.
Neal added her second goal in the 70th minute, taking a throw-in near midfield and dribbling down the left sideline through the FHU defense before firing another shot under Harris to give Lambuth a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles' defense then did its job for the remainder of the match, keeping Freed-Hardeman from taking another shot until time expired.
Lambuth held a slight edge in shots, taking 11 to FHU's eight. Lambuth keeper Rachel Harless posted a clean sheet with six saves, while Harris stopped five shots for the Lady Lions.
FHU plays again on Saturday against Central Baptist (Ark.) College at 6:00 PM. The Lady Lions will be without starting midfielder
Shelby Murray, who received two yellow cards in the span of one minute in Friday's loss.
