Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions looked back to their
defending conference championship form after a five set nail biter
against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University, defeating the Lady Eagles
of Faulkner (Ala.) University in a straight sweep at the Brewer Sports
Center (25-13, 25-18, 25-15).
The Lady Lions wasted no time jumping ahead, taking a 17-6 point lead into a Faulkner time out. Immediately after,
Callie West got her team-leading 31st service ace on the season. FHU then snuffed out a 3-0 Lady Eagle run via a Faulkner attack error 25-13.
The second set began with the visiting Lady Eagles taking a 3-2 lead and staying within two points of the Lady Lions until a service ace at the 14-10 mark by
Sydney Rice lit a fire underneath her team mates, cruising into a 25-18 set victory.
Early attack errors closed the door on any hopes of a Faulkner comeback, with Freed-Hardeman taking a 6-3 advantage after four straight attack errors put the Lady Lions up big without touching the ball after the
Amber Turner serve. The set had the Lady Eagles (18-14) with a -11 percent attack rating opposite a 24 percent count from the Lady Lions.
Sandra Montoya led the way with a team leading nine kills and eight digs, while Rice went over 30 aces for the season, recording a pair in the match.
The Lady Lions (16-6, 9-2) will host the Redhawks of Martin Methodist (Tenn.) University for senior night before visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) University. The team will then travel to Georgetown, Ky. to participate in the prestigious Bone Yard Brawl hosted by Georgetown (Ky.) College where they will face two top 25 teams: No. 10 Indiana Tech and No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan.
