Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team wrapped up play at the Faulkner (Ala.) University Invitational on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches to finish the event at 2-2.
FHU lost in the morning to No. 21 Spring Hill (Ala.) College in straight sets before rebounding to down the University of Mobile (Ala.) in a five-set thriller.
Fernanda Ferreira had 10 kills in the loss to Spring Hill (26-0) and 14 in the win over Mobile, giving her 52 kills for the tournament.
Sydney Rice had nine kills against SHC and 13 against Mobile.
Sandra Montoya recorded a double-double in FHU's victory with 10 kills and 11 digs while also having 10 digs in the first match of the day.
Callie West was also solid on the back row with 10 digs against Spring Hill and 23 against Mobile.
Nataly Gutierrez also added 10 kills and four blocks in FHU's victory.
The Lady Lions (11-5) return to Henderson to prepare for a big conference matchup against Bethel (Tenn.) University on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Brewer Sports Center. Bethel is undefeated in conference play while the Lady Lions, at 5-2, are in second place among post-season eligible teams.
