Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions came up just short in the opening game of a three-game conference series against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University on Thursday, falling to the Trojans 4-2.
The Trojans took the lead with two runs in the sixth and, after FHU got one back in the seventh, added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh before Dylan Kuhn closed the door by retiring the final five batters of the game.
TNU scored in the third inning off of Lion starter
Andy Southard (2-2) but Southard held the Trojans to that lone run through five innings. FHU tied the game on an RBI single by
Leamond Arthur in the fifth inning.
Mitch McClay's double in the sixth put TNU ahead 3-1, but Arthur's sacrifice fly brought in
Tyler Wilson to get FHU within one. That would be as close as the Lions would get, however, after the Trojans scored in the bottom of the seventh and FHU could get nothing going against Kuhn in the last two innings.
The Lions (15-16, 3-4) had six hits in the game with two coming from
Joe Mike. Arthur,
Robert Prieto,
Evan Mansell and
Joel Pierce each had a hit for FHU.
The series continues tomorrow with a double-header beginning at 11:00 am.
