HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions bounced back from a slow start, winning three sets in a row after losing the first to seal a 3-1 win over Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Monday night.
The first set was tightly contested with the Bulldogs using net defense to pull away at the end for a 27-25 victory. FHU made sure the second set was not in question, taking an early lead and staying on top until a ferocious spike from Jasmine Johnson finished the set with a 25-13 win.
Things were tight again in the third set but this time it was the Lady Lions who pulled away late, getting a 25-23 set win.
In the fourth set, Freed-Hardeman jumped ahead early and never looked back with a dominant 25-10 victory to finish the match.
Fernanda Ferreira and Allie Moss led the Lady Lion attack with 18 kills apiece while Johnson added six kills. Callie West paced the defense with 17 digs and also had five service aces.
The Lady Lions host Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
