Cold shooting dooms Lions in loss to Campbellsville

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions suffered through their worst shooting performance since 2006 in losing their first game of the Lindsey WIlson Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night in a 65-49 loss to Campbellsville (Ky.) University.

The Lions (4-3) shot 24.2 percent for the game and 16.1 percent in the first half, making just three of their last 23 attempts in the half. Campbellsville was able to take advantage and built 22-10 lead at the 6:23 mark but FHU still trailed by 10 at the break, 25-15.

It wasn't until a 13-3 run by the Tigers midway through the second half, though, that put FHU in a deep hole. A Vernon Payne basket with 9:19 to play extended CU's lead to 46-26, a deficit that was too great for the cold-shooting Lions to overcome. Freed-Hardeman was able to pull back within 12 points on a few occasions but couldn't get the deficit back into single digits.

It was the worst offensive performance for FHU since shooting 20.8 percent and scoring 47 points against Georgetown (Ky.) College on Nov. 4, 2006.

Jonathan Milewski was the only Lion to reach double figures, scoring 14 points. Vincent Dotson had a team-high eight rebounds.

The Lions get a chance for a measure of redemption tomorrow as they play No. 11 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College at 4:00 PM.
