HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions entered Thursday night's game against Fisk (Tenn.) University leading the NAIA in scoring margin, and after a 78-32 win that will not change when national statistics update tomorrow.
FHU (7-0) got off to its typical hot start, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-3 over the first eight-plus minutes of the game. The Lady Lions also closed the half strong, holding Fisk scoreless over the last 6:44 as part of 13 unanswered points that gave them a 39-11 lead at the break.
Things didn't change in the second half, as Freed-Hardeman opened with a 22-2 run to go ahead by 48 points (61-13) after a Summer Waggoner basket with 11:35 to play for what was its largest lead of the game.
Ashley Tate and Grace Alonso de Armino both scored 15 points to lead FHU, while Alonso de Armino finished one rebound shy of a double-double and Tate finished two assists short of one. Amber Alexander tied her career-high in rebounds with 13.
The 32 points allowed is the lowest since FHU held Knoxville (Tenn.) College to 22 points on Dec. 3, 2005.
FHU returns to the floor on Friday hosting Tougaloo (Miss.) College at 6:00 PM in its final home game before conference play begins in January.
